Shower blessings

Ashley and David are very blessed to have such a sweet and loving church family in Mansfield. A group of very sweet friends hosted a baby shower and bless them they did! It was so fun to get to be a part of this special day for them. They certainly showered them with many cute little outfits, diapers and wipes! What a precious group of young ladies. I am so thankful that our kids have such loving church families who love on them and love on our grandchildren as well. We are so incredibly blessed. The ladies did such a cute job of decorating and the food table was filled with yummy treats! Thank you ladies for all the work and effort you went to, to make Ashley feel quite loved and spoiled!

 Sweet group of friends
Oh how I love this girl of mine.
One thing missing...we missed Patti, David's mom.
She was home taking care of Joe, who had knee replacement.
My very pregnant but adorable daughter

Cute table. Ashley is decorating the nursery with "vintage cowboy".

Carhart...Ashley knew when she opened this David would be a huge fan!
 Hudson's first pair of boots!

A little gown and blanket in a vintage cowboy lunchbox...from Bud and Honey

When we got home it was so fun to get everything out and show David and Emma
and display it all for a picture. How very blessed and honored this day has been!

Happy Birthday Son!

32 years ago today, a 9 pound bouncing baby boy blessed our lives and
he hasn't quit blessing us since then! We are so blessed!
I choose this picture because this is what makes my heart sing...
seeing him teach his young boys to be great men of God!
This is of Owen a few weeks ago.
Owen has been taking a class at their church to teach the young men to serve communion,
pray, lead singing, even preach! Owen was very excited as he got to serve!
Of course the sweet dads were there to help, if needed.
Thank you Zach for making family such a priority! We love to watch you as a husband and a daddy!
We love you more than words can say.
Have a great day!

10 years!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ZACH AND MEG!!!
10 years ago today, we witnessed you two make a vow to one another to love each other through the good days and the bad days, for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health. Your wedding day was so beautiful. Meg was glowing, Zach couldn't quit smiling and the wedding...every single detail at the wedding and the reception was perfect and reflected who the two of you were! We have been so blessed to watch you in your marriage walk. We have witnessed you as you two moved to College Station so that Zach could finish school, were thrilled when ya'll made the decision to make Abilene your home, to watching as you became parents to Owen, then Clay and then Will. What a fun ride it has been so far! We are so proud of the lives you lead. The way you have gotten involved in church and in the community. The way you love each other and love your boys. You two make us very proud and we are thankful EVERY single day that you are committed to one another! It is hard to believe it has been 10 years but we just want you to know how very proud we are of the two of you and ever thankful for all you do to make our lives so much richer! Love you more than words can express- Mom and Dad

A to Z...in reverse that is!

I decided I would do an A-Z list but I am starting with Z! I know, I am weird...but it is kind of like the way I flip through a magazine...I always go from the back to the front...so Z is where I will start!

Z- Zachary Austin Knight
Our firstborn. Our only son. Our pride and joy. I loved this stage of my life, because now I get to sit back and watch my children be adults. Be spouses. For Zach, we get to watch him be a husband and a daddy. It is great fun. But first let me go back to September 25, 1979. I can't describe the excitement Larry and I felt as we anxiously awaited our firstborn child. We had
been married a little over 3 years when Zach was born. The nursrey was ready (decorated in lovely checked gingham and ducks) and we could hardly wait to meet our child...yes...in "those" days you really didn't really have the option to find out so the sex of our child was a much anticipated surprise. I actually loved that...one of life's truly best surprises!! We were delighted when Zach made his much anticipated entrance weighing in at 9 lbs and 2 1/2 ounces! He had a head full of black hair and pretty much entered the world ready to take it on! He was a chunky little guy with gusto for life! He quickly became Larry's little sidekick and loved to "go work" with Dad. He basically just loved life...but he was also very strong willed which of course got him in to a bit of trouble through the early years of his life. He had to often learn lessons the hard way and had his fair share of bumps, bruises, stitches and even a few broken bones. When I was pregnant with Ashley, I often thought how he would accept another "kid" in the house but I could not have dreamed how well he "took" to his sister. He immediately became the protector and her best friend. We thought Ashley would never walk, because if Zach saw her trying to get to something he would quickly bring it to her. It became very obvious that her brother could do no wrong in her eyes! Being strong willed had it's advantages as well, he was a quick learner, not afraid to try new tasks and his brain was always thinking up something to do or make. Zach loved being with family, grandparents and cousins! You could give him a piece of rope or an empty cardboard box and he was a happy camper! Zach, loved life, but didn't really see a great need for school. He tolerated it and was actually a good student but he just didn't see why everyone else made such a big deal of it...he had much prefer to be at home or working with his Dad. When Zach reached high school, he went on a Wilderness Trek trip with our youth group and the whole world changed for him. He had always been our child who LOVED to be outdoors but once he saw the mountains, he was hooked. He loved climbing, repeling, rafting, fly-fishing, skiing, camping...pretty much if it was outdoors he was interested. But the thing we also saw happening, was his faith grew by leaps and bounds. As soon as he was old enough to work at Trek (between his Junior and Senior Year of High School) he spent his summers in Colorado. It was hard to be away from him all summer, but then when we would go and see him so happy it became much easier. Working with Trek, he met Meg! So, we really feel like the whole Trek thing was a "God-thing" in his faith and in his future. Fast forward...there was college, marriage, moving to A&M to finish his schooling, moving back to Abilene to take over a business Larry had started when Zach was in High School and then Meg and Zach starting their family. Now we have three precious grandsons and have the pleasure of watching Zach be a dad! It is so fun to see Owen and Clay already following in their father's footsteps! They love being outdoors, love to "build things" and as Owen says "be worker men!".

Zach started life out big and he hasn't ever stopped. He towers over me and his body build is much like his granddad and his great granddad. But there is another part of him that is huge and that is his heart. He has such a heart for serving others. On so many occasions, I am reminded of what a heart of gold he has. He is always doing and giving of himself, his means and his time. But he also has such a funny side, that many never see. Thank goodness we do, because it brings us such joy! I am very proud to call him my son! He is such a blessing to my life! Zachary Austin Knight...thank you for the honor it is to call you son! You have made my life rich in so many ways and I am so blessed by you each and every day!

Here is Zach and his three precious boys! Owen is standing, Clay is sitting on
Zach's lap as he shows them their new baby brother, Will.

Okay...I promise I won't make ALL the post this long...but after all,
I am a mom and I do love to talk about my kids!

Weekend projects

Larry and I had the pleasure of visiting David and Ashley this weekend at their lovely home. We went with full intentions of it being a "home project weekend" which is so much fun for Larry and I to be apart of! We love home projects, so to get to help David and Ashley was such a treat! (I know...we are weird!)

The guys, with some help from the girls, built a new metal building in their backyard to store all those lovely items we usually stuff in our garages...except for the fact that David and Ashley don't have a garage! It was a hot and tedious project...but the result was a fine looking shed in their backyard! What an improvement!

When Larry and I were married, Larry's brother gave us a hutch as a wedding gift. It has served us well but when we built our new kitchen a few years back, we just didn't have a place for the hutch any longer. We stored it in the garage for awhile in hopes that one of the kids could use it someday. Ashley and David gladly took it after they married and though it has served the purpose in their rent house...a place to hold kitchen overflow...it just needed some sprucing up! Ashley do all the sanding and getting it ready for paint and brought it to our house for her Dad to do his magic! So, a fresh coat of paint, distressing and varnishing it...we delivered it to Mansfield this weekend! (You can see pictures on Ashley's blog)

Ashley and I had fun making it even more lovely. Ashley purchased some great paisley fabric and we covered the back of the hutch with fabric to make her china stand out. It looks fabulous! We also covered all the seat cushions to their dining room chairs with the same fabric. It was fun to unpack all the lovely wedding gifts...china, glass and silver pieces and display them in the new improved hutch!

It really is so fun to take something old and give it a fresh and fun look, and even more fun to get to do it with our kids. Ashley and I decided it is much more rewarding than going out and buying something new! Was it a full weekend of work...yes...but it was so much fun to work beside them as they "feather their nest!".

Being a parent, just get more and more fun! We loved when our kids were at home and thought life just couldn't get any better than that. But now, we love helping Zach,Meg, David, Ashley AND playing with grandkids...it just gets better and better! Watching your children grow up and become adults who love making their house a home...that is like icing on the cake!
